How to Better Fit Exercise Into Your Routine  

Are you so busy that you find it difficult to fit exercising in your day? The CDC recommends that you should get a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, however a lot of people do not have enough time in the day to set aside an hour to workout. Have you ever considered breaking the long session into several mini sessions instead? 

Interval workouts, or mini workouts, are performed periodically throughout your day. You can set a timer or use a trigger, such as walking into a certain room or seeing a certain object that signals the start of your workout.  You can do one exercise at a time or a variety throughout your day, and which exercises and how many reps are completely up to you!  

There are many benefits of mini workouts, such as: 

  • Improving your overall health  

  • Easier to fit into your day 

  • Can help lower blood pressure 

  • Reduces stress of working out 

  • Helps you reach your fitness goals 

Mini workouts have a lot of benefits and not many drawbacks when it comes to improving your health. Here are some tips to help you get started: 

  • Plan Ahead. Have an idea in your head of what exercises you may do and when you may do them. You could structure your days so that one day you focus on the lower body and the next you focus on the upper body, or switch it up each day! Either way, try to plan what your day of exercising will look like.  

  • Schedule Your Workouts. Scheduling exactly when you will take a break to move may be helpful, or you can just perform them when you have time. Setting a calendar reminder may also be helpful! 

  • Follow a Format. Try to create a format that works for you. For example, you could pick five different exercises that you perform for two minutes each time. You could also play with different work rest increments, such as 30 seconds on 30 seconds off. Try different formats and see what works best for you!  

Setting aside large blocks of time to exercise can be difficult and overwhelming. Mini workouts are a much more manageable way to include physical activity into your day! They are also very customizable to you and your routine. If you do not like the idea of coming up with your own workouts, there are many different plans that you can follow along with! Physical activity will become part of your every day routine, and soon enough you will be able to reap the benefits!
